News from Today...
Hey there guys, looks like I did come up with some news that I just had to post. Jim Hill Media posts a preview about what Pixar's next, Wall-E, will be about. Check it out here if you want to read the spoiler. Wall-E stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifters -- Earth, by the way. The story sounds strangely familiar to me, but I don't know if anyone will agree with me on this point...
While I'm on the point of Pixar, check out this article on the Pixarization of Disney via Variety.
Last but not least, check this article on The Fallout From the Happy Feet Win. Why fallout? Because it was a performance-capture film 'masquerading' as a fully animated film. Definetly an important debate in my opinion.
[Update} Here's another shot of Wall-E.

... and the Femme Fatale
Just a heads up that I'll be pretty busy over the reading week with about a thousand things. I'll try to update as usual but chances are I might have to gear down to one update a week for a little bit, unless I pick up some news along the way.
I also wanted to extend a thank-you to the very talented John Nevarez for the plug. I hope John's visitors enjoy!

The child's room
Just a crack at a layout for the film.
Probably too over-rendered.

Brad Bird on ABC
Brad Bird was on ABC today, and the feature is complete with clips from Ratatouille.
Check out the caps:
The video is available here. Sorry, can't embed the video.
[update] oops, that old screen cap was indeed an old Walt Disney film. My bad!
I still think Ratatouille looks awesome.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.
Here's an intriguing animated feature film that seems to be a bizarre mix of anime and western styles.
Studio Ghibli's Yoshifumi Kondo directed this pilot film for the concept, which is based on Winsor McCay's cartoons:
Here's the trailer for the film itself:
And of course, the film in it's entirety on YouTube:

Things around the net....
Seems like I haven't posted about animation news in a while...
There's some new news about what's going on at Pixar/Disney. Apparently Lee Unkrich is set to direct Toy Story 3, instead of John Lasseter. Lee co-directed Monster's Inc, Toy Story 2, and Finding Nemo, and will work alone on Toy Story 3. One additional note that this article reveals is that the script will be penned by Michael Arndt, the writer of Little Miss Sunshine.
Also notable is that Chris Williams is the purported replacement of Chris Sanders as Director of American Dog, set to be the next film released by Disney after Meet the Robinsons.
Reuters yet again confirms that 2D Animation will return at Disney, straight from the horse's (A.K.A. Ed Catmull's) mouth.
Check out this article about Pixar story artist Valerie Lapointe.
This page has some new images from Shrek 3.
It looks like Bob Zemeckis and his team of "Performance capture" technicians have Joined forces with Disney, and are planning to form a new company to release motion-capture based films. This link reveals that the next film from Zemeckis using this technology will be entitled "Beowulf." Also, there is speculation that the "John Carter of Mars" series is being purchased by Disney for this new company, not for Pixar, as originally believed.
Also, check out the live action Geri's Game:
That's all for now!

William Whitaker:
Make sure to check out his ConceptArt.org posts here
Alvin Gittins:
Can't find any more work by him but the above is a "almost life-sized" nupastel drawing.
I think I need to go to life drawing now.

Gerry Zeldin...
By far one of the best teacher's I've had at Sheridan is Gerry Zeldin. I only recently came upon his website featuring his works, GeraldZeldin.com.
I had seen some of this work at a showing in Toronto this past summer, but it's great to see it online as well. Check it out!
